eyaluate and use information becomes an essential skill for people.
Media and information literacy (MIL) olfers a set of competenci?s that
can polentially equip people to handle information. Hence. as aclive
information ttsers, it is important for students t0 have MIL
compelencies to support the teaching-leaming process. LIS
Departmenl which prepares students as informalion professktnals
should inchde MIL in its curricuhtm. Most LIS Dep.trtment in
lndonesia has informalion literacy in theit" utrricuhtm. This p"per aimt
to explore the scope of Information Literacy teaching (lL) in library
and information science (LIS) arrricula compared lo MIL
competencies in order to identify the gap betu,een IL and MIL
components that will be important feedback lo impro '-e the LIS
atrricuhtm. This is qtnlitative research lhal employs obsentation,
interview, and document review to gather data. Three LIS depertmenls
from Islamic universities in Jaya are chosen a a sample to be studied
(IJIN Yogyakarta, |JIN Malang, and UIN firulings). The finding shows
lhat three LIS departments focus more on lL competencies for
academic pt.ttposes and still do not inclnde media literuq, element.
However, there are MIL elements thal are also tcnght in LIS such cts
safety in using digital media primarily for protecling dala privacy.
