abstract: This thesis has aims, which are (1) to find out the suitable type of music to
be played for the visitors in Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta, (2) to find out
whether the music being played in Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta can disturb the
visitors or else make them consentrate while reading, (3) to find out whether there
is a relationship between music and reading concentration. The methods in this
research used questionnaire, interview, and documentation in form of written
report that was made by Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta. The instrument used for
the main data collection was closed questionnaire using Likert scale. The
respondents in this research were all of the library members (52 library
members). The formula used was correlation coeficient Product Moment to test
hypothesis and was continued with Mean formula to find out the suitable music
type according to the library visitors in Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta. The
results are (1) the music type that wants to be listened by the library visitors in
Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta is instrumental music; (2) the library visitors in
Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta are not disturbed with the music played.
Moreover, they can concentrate while reading, which is shown from 52
respondents, there are 46 respondents answer ‘sangat setuju’ (very agree) and
‘setuju’ (agree); (3) there is a relationship between music and reading
concentration in Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta and can be shown by
> (0,800>0,279). The writer gives suggestion that it is better if
Perpustakaan ICBC Yogyakarta plays music with slower rhythm because cheerful
music or irregular rhythm can break concentration in reading activity
