The purpose of this research is know SiO2 contens in Zalacca palm stem and know characteristic of silica gel from Zalacca palm stem. The synthesis was fusing at 700°C for 4 hours. The Zalacca palm stem ash was solubled with Sodium hydroxide at 100°C for 30 minutes to product sodium silicate. Gel formation was carried out by adding hydrocloric acid at various concentrations (2, 4, and 6M). The formed gel was washed with water and dried at 50oC for 18 hours. Silica gel characterization was done using dengan X-ray diffractometer, fourier trasform infra red, and, gas sorption analyzer Result showed that Zalacca palm stem ash conclused SiO2 in range of 21,48%. From X-ray diffractometer was concluded that the resulted silica gel was amorphous structure. From fourier trasform infra red also showed silica gel synthesized indicated by existance of silanol and siloxane fungcional groups. Surface area, total pore volume and pore volume were 2,983 m2/g, 0,005 cc/g and 15,172 Å respectively. It was concluded that the product had pore size micropore, mesopore and macropore with dominant fraction at mesopore.
