"This research was motivated by the problem of symbolic\r\nviolence in the scope of basic education, which is increasingly\r\nevident due to lack of attention paid by the government on this\r\nmatter. This condition is definitely paradoxical with the legitimacy\r\nof teachers in their practice of using language, domination and\r\npower. Teachers believe that they are required to exercise elements\r\nof language use, domination and power because these distinguish\r\nthem from and limit their relationship from students. No wonder,\r\nthere is a currently held belief that students who are positioned as\r\nobjects must be dominated in every learning process. Thus far,\r\nsymbolic violence has been widely understood as an effort by\r\nteachers to achieve learning objectives and to maintain classroom\r\ndiscipline of students. This research paper aims to explain why\r\nsymbolic violence occurs in SD 69 (Elementary School) of Bengkulu\r\nCity and the form of symbolic violence that occurs in the learning\r\nprocess at SD 69 in Bengkulu City. This dissertation used qualitative\r\nmethod by involving education staff and students at SD 69 in\r\nBengkulu City. Data were collected by way of interviews,\r\nparticipatory observation, and documentation. The data were mainly\r\nderived from primary and secondary sources.\r\nThe findings of the present study show that in practice, SD 69\r\nof Bengkulu City has firmly stated that the use of language and\r\npower can lead to symbolic violence in the relationship between\r\nteachers and students. This condition occurs inseparable from the\r\nstrong influence of subjects who have powerful root in the circle of\r\nscientific objectivity, which thus makes symbolic violence approved\r\nand perpetuated by students through adherence to teachers’ ways of\r\nthinking and acting. This condition is also supported by the\r\nlegitimacy and regulation of SD 69 of Bengkulu City in the learning\r\nprocess and the cultural-systems that frame it. As a result, symbolic\r\nviolence becomes an established legitimacy because the use of power\r\nand language of teachers is framed by their competency and knowledge, which further seek to highlight their different status and\r\ngap in the relationship between teachers and students.\r\nSD 69 of Bengkulu City is inseparable from the influence of\r\nsuch subjects and objects who based their dominance in the scientific\r\nobjectivity. However, throughout the course of educational\r\ndevelopment, there was contradictory research finding at SD 69 in\r\nBengkulu City. Since the enactment of the 2013 Curriculum,\r\nteachers have been exposed to symbolic violence exercised by\r\nstudents. The 2013 curriculum allows more space and access for\r\nstudents to be creative and innovative, which is supported by human\r\nrights capital in the learning process. Thus, in every learning process,\r\nstudents often deviate their teachers’ explanation.
