Sos., M abstract: Genshin Impact is an online game created by a Chinese company called miHoYo Cognosphere Pte. Ltd. (under the HoYoverse brand). Until 2022, this game has presented a variety of interesting events in each version. One of the interesting events in the Genshin Impact game is a lantern rite event in version 2.4. But in running of this version, HoYoverse as the game developer Genshin Impact almost always features female characters in each the lantern rite event they created, starting from the launch screen banner, cutscenes, to quests in the game. This study examines the forms and practices of commodification of female characters found in the Lantern Rite event in version 2.4 of the Genshin Impact. By using Roland Barthes’s semiotic analysis method, it was found that there was a commodification that occurred to the female characters in the event. female characters are used as commodities to attract the attention of the audience. In this case, female characters from Liyue are used as a tool to attract the attention of players or gamers through their charm, starting from their character, body shape, to the clothes they wear with the aim of making players interested in playing the lantern rite event contained in the game.
