%X This research aim is to analyze the problem of culture shock in intercultural communication. Culture shock is when a person experiences a loss of signs or symbols in his life in a new area different from his place of origin. The culture shock phenomenon happened to students from Kepahiang who studied in Yogyakarta. This phenomenon hinders Kepahiang students from studying, so efforts are needed to overcome it. In this study, Howard Gilles' communication accommodation theory will explain the culture shock phenomenon to Kepahiang students. Communication accommodation is matching, changing, or managing individual behavior in response to other individuals. The research method used is qualitative research and descriptive approach. The subjects in this research were students from Kepahiang have experienced culture shock. There are forms of convergence and divergence as well as assumptions in the theory of communication accommodation used when Kepahiang students try to overcome cultural shock in Yogyakarta. The results showed that Kepahiang students went through four phases of culture shock and used communication accommodation to adapt to their environment in Yogyakarta. The efforts made by Kepahiang students are to keep themselves busy by participating in positive activities, using the local language, cooking for themselves, and learning Yogyakarta culture.
