%X This study aims to describe and explain how the authority of native  counselors is seen through a study of the role of sanok mamok in  Bengkulu in relation to native counseling. The research method used  in this research is qualitative. There are two data collection techniques;  the first is through interviews with 9 participants who are divided into  three groups, namely: First one is a traditional figure, sanok mamok  and family or community. The second one is participatory  observations made on socio-cultural life and interactions that occur in  society. This research was conducted in Batu Ejung Village, Teramang  Jaya District, Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province. The results of  this study are; 1) In the tradition and culture of the people of Bengkulu,  sanok mamok has roles and responsibilities as someone who heads the  management of various problems that occur within the family and  society, disputes in the household, fights in the community and so on.  2) If viewed through the perspective of indigenous counseling, the role  of sanok mamok is someone who helps find bright spots for various  problems that occur in the family or community and helps to find the  best solution from the problems that occur. 3) The efforts and methods  undertaken by sanok mamok to gain legitimacy from the community  as people who can help to solve problems are by showing good  attitudes and behavior in the family and society, when they get the  opportunity to lead the management of problems, sanok mamok will  try to be wise and fair in decision-making.
