abstract: The background of this research is that advances in information technology
have a big impact on culture and mentality, so it is important to pay attention to the
economy of human resources by strengthening education and developing Islamic
boarding schools. With a focus on increasing the economic independence of
students, research at the Modern Yatim and Dhuafa Madania Islamic Boarding
School Foundation in Yogyakarta examines career guidance methods to achieve
this mission. This research is a qualitative research. The subjects in this study were
8 people, consisting of 5 students, 1 counselor, 1 head of business unit and 1 leader
of the Islamic boarding school. The object of this research is the career guidance
method to form students' economic independence. Data collection used interview
techniques, observation, documentation, and group discussion forums (FGD). The
techniques used in data analysis are analyzing data, reducing data, heuristic
arrangement, categorization and drawing conclusions. In testing the validity of the
data, researchers used source triangulation by comparing the results of data
collection techniques with several sources used in searching for information. The
research results show that there are 5 methods used in career guidance to form
students' economic independence, namely: (1) lectures from resource persons, (2)
group discussions, (3) unit teaching, (4) career field trips, and (5) counseling
career individual.
