A quantitative approach was used with a Quasi-Experimental two-group post-test only design. Vignettes in the form of stories were employed as stimuli. Participants were divided into two groups, experimental and control, and further categorized based on their gender. The research sample consisted of a total of 70 college students. The analysis revealed that a high level of envy had a significant positive influence on schadenfreude in participants, with value F(1, 66) = 73.5, p = <0.001, ?²p = 0.527. There was no significant influence of gender on schadenfreude; however, the average schadenfreude scores for male participants were higher than female participants, with value F(1, 66) = 17.4, p = <0.001, ?²p = 0.209. High levels of envy contribute to an increase in schadenfreude among participants. While there was no significant difference in schadenfreude responses between genders, the average schadenfreude scores for male participants tended to be higher than those for female participants. This study provides valuable insights into the relationship between envy, gender, and schadenfreude, shedding light on the psychological mechanisms underlying this complex phenomenon.
