In this dissertation, academic resilience is defined as the student’s endurance and toughness when coping with both academic and nonacademic obstacles, hindrances, challenges and problems. This dissertation focuses on studying academic resilience in Islam perspective. It is interesting to study student’s endurance further for a student’s success is very much dependent on academic resilience they have. This resilience is psychologically – covering aspects of cognitive, conation, and emotion supported by spiritual and religious values – determined by mental health. Islam has its role and offer to reconstruct academic resilience concept on the basis of Al-Quran and Al-Hadits. It is important for a student to have such quality as it really helps those in trouble to get back and keep going until they get what they dream of. This qualitative literature study employed Meta- Ethnographic approach. The research was based on the theory of “Seven Factor Resilience” by Karen Reivich and Andrew Shatte written in their work entitled “The Resilience Factor” on “7 Key to Finding Your Inner Strength and Overcoming Life’s Hurdles”. Strengthened by Cannor Davidson also Herman, Stewart, Diaz- Granados, Berger, Jackson, and Yuen, a new theory on religious academic resilience was eventually brought in. This academic resilience theory is constructed upon theism or de-secularism, anthroporeligiousity, and spirit dimension to be the utmost psychic structure (personality) of human beings. This dissertation studies the religious academic resilience. The reconstruction of the theory is summarized in the novelty presented in a systematic discussion. The essence of academic resilience discovered in this study is that the dynamics of the resilience is pictured in the following dimensions or components: spiritualism and religious values, personal competence, personality, regulation of emotion, impulse management, self-awareness, self-evaluation, self-efficacy, selfactuality, self-image, and dignity. In an Islamic perspective the characteristics of academic resilience comprise self-esteem, selfcontrol, calmness, toughness, persistence, independence, and strong-willing. %Z Promotor: Prof. Dr. Sangkot Sirait, M.
