"This research is motivated by the changing leadership style\r\nparadigm that emerged and underwent changes because of its\r\ninappropriateness for current developments and conditions. Prophetic\r\nleadership style offers a concept emphasizing aspects of moral, ethic\r\nand long-term vision of library management. The style encourages\r\npositive changes and inspires librarians with high values and clear\r\ngoals based on the prophet’s characteristics (i.e. siddiq, amanah,\r\ntabligh, fathonah and democratic). This research aims to analyze (1)\r\nthe importance of prophetic leadership in librarians’ performance, (2)\r\nthe implementation of prophetic leadership and the librarians’\r\nperformance, (3) the impact of prophetic leadership on the\r\nperformance of librarians in universities in Malang City.\r\nThis qualitative research employed a case study approach.\r\nCarried out at the library of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic\r\nUniversity Malang (UIN Maliki Malang), Malang State University\r\nLibrary (UM) and Muhammadiyah Malang University Library\r\n(UMM), the study took 12 informants comprising 9 librarians and 3\r\nlibrary heads. The main aspects of prophetic leadership consisting of\r\nsiddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah and democratic traits are an\r\nelaboration of the theory of Irwan Nugroho, Banjari. To analyze the\r\nlibrarians’ performance aspect, a concept from from Hery and\r\nRobbin was used. In addition, Robert E. Kelley, Murjani's theory was\r\napplied to analyze leadership urgency and performance, while JK\r\nFellog Fundation and Benyamin Bloom were used to analyze the\r\nimpact of prophetic leadership on librarian performance.\r\nResults. (1) The prophetic leadership urgency in librarians’\r\nperformance. Fathonah (intellectual ability) in this type of leadership\r\ncontrolled the science and technology progress and development.\r\nControls can improve the performance efficiency (siddiq). Main\r\ntasks and functions can improve the performance of librarians\r\n(amanah and siddiq). Prophetic leadership can improve librarian\r\nperformance management through strengthening library organization\r\nand management (siddiq). The set-target achievement and prophetic\r\nleadership can increase work productivity (trust and tabligh) so as to\r\nimprove the quality of library services. (2) Implementation of\r\nprophetic leadership in librarian performance. Prophetic leadership\r\nimproves the librarians’ performance and creates a strong and organizational culture, with support and commitment from the head\r\nof the library. Librarians are more motivated to do the best for the\r\nlibrary vision, mission and objective achievements, by upholding\r\nprophetic leadership values (siddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah and\r\ndemocratic) which are related to honesty, responsibility, religiosity\r\nincrease through religious activities and professional work culture.\r\n(3) The leadership increased organizational commitment,\r\nperformance motivation, and performance satisfaction. The leader’s\r\nsupport, acknowledgement, and discipline have a crucial role in\r\ncreating a productive work environment and improving the collective\r\nperformance of librarians.\r\nThe study, theoretically, enriches the theory of prophetic\r\nleadership which can be integrated to improve the librarians’\r\nperformance. It can be a reference for prophetic leadership theory\r\ndevelopment to improve the performance of college libraries in\r\nMalang and in Indonesia.
