Prophetic leadership style offers a concept emphasizing aspects of moral, ethic and long-term vision of library management. The style encourages positive changes and inspires librarians with high values and clear goals based on the prophet?s characteristics (i.e. siddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah and democratic). This research aims to analyze (1) the importance of prophetic leadership in librarians? performance, (2) the implementation of prophetic leadership and the librarians? performance, (3) the impact of prophetic leadership on the performance of librarians in universities in Malang City. This qualitative research employed a case study approach. Carried out at the library of Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang (UIN Maliki Malang), Malang State University Library (UM) and Muhammadiyah Malang University Library (UMM), the study took 12 informants comprising 9 librarians and 3 library heads. The main aspects of prophetic leadership consisting of siddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah and democratic traits are an elaboration of the theory of Irwan Nugroho, Banjari. To analyze the librarians? performance aspect, a concept from from Hery and Robbin was used. In addition, Robert E. Kelley, Murjani's theory was applied to analyze leadership urgency and performance, while JK Fellog Fundation and Benyamin Bloom were used to analyze the impact of prophetic leadership on librarian performance. Results. (1) The prophetic leadership urgency in librarians? performance. Fathonah (intellectual ability) in this type of leadership controlled the science and technology progress and development. Controls can improve the performance efficiency (siddiq). Main tasks and functions can improve the performance of librarians (amanah and siddiq). Prophetic leadership can improve librarian performance management through strengthening library organization and management (siddiq). The set-target achievement and prophetic leadership can increase work productivity (trust and tabligh) so as to improve the quality of library services. (2) Implementation of prophetic leadership in librarian performance. Prophetic leadership improves the librarians? performance and creates a strong and organizational culture, with support and commitment from the head of the library. Librarians are more motivated to do the best for the library vision, mission and objective achievements, by upholding prophetic leadership values (siddiq, amanah, tabligh, fathonah and democratic) which are related to honesty, responsibility, religiosity increase through religious activities and professional work culture. (3) The leadership increased organizational commitment, performance motivation, and performance satisfaction. The leader?s support, acknowledgement, and discipline have a crucial role in creating a productive work environment and improving the collective performance of librarians. The study, theoretically, enriches the theory of prophetic leadership which can be integrated to improve the librarians? performance. It can be a reference for prophetic leadership theory development to improve the performance of college libraries in Malang and in Indonesia. Also, it can upgrade Library Management Studies and university library human resources (HR) in Malang.
