In Indonesia, despite the relatively high birth rate, various factors such as economic considerations, medical issues, psychological readiness, and the challenges of globalization lead many married couples to choose not to have children. The decision of Muslim couples not to have children ultimately conflicts with the principles of Islamic law, where one of the noble objectives of marriage is to have progeny. The focus of this research included analyzing how students of Islamic Family Law perceived the childfree phenomenon and the underlying perspectives that influenced the viewpoints of the students. The data for this research was collected using a mixed methods approach, which combined quantitative and qualitative methodologies involving students of the Islamic Family Law program at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Quantitative data was obtained through an online survey involving 64 students of Islamic Family Law. Additionally, qualitative data was collected through in-depth interviews with 5 selected students who had previously participated in the survey. Data analysis was conducted using the framework of Human Rights theory and maqāṣid al-syarī’ah. The research findings revealed that, in general, Islamic Family Law students (75%) perceived having a sufficient understanding of the childfree phenomenon. However, these students exhibited a wide range of viewpoints and attitudes towards the childfree phenomenon, influenced by various factors, such as their perspectives on Islamic Law and Human Rights principles. Data analysis showed that the majority of Islamic Family Law students rejected the childfree phenomenon due to the belief that it contradicted Islamic Law. Meanwhile, students of Islamic Family Law who expressed agreement with childfree based their viewpoints on Human Rights principles, as they believed that childfree was an individual‟s life choice protected by Human Rights. %K Childfree, Mahasiswa, Hukum Keluarga Islam, Hak Asasi Manusia %D 2023 %I UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib63168
