The Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI) regulates the subject of nusyuz, but only for wives, while the husband's nusyuz is not explained. This gender bias affects people's understanding of nusyuz and has an impact on the high rate of domestic violence (KDRT), especially in Bengkulu City which has experienced an escalation in the number of victims of domestic violence over the past 3 years. This misconception regarding nusyuz, especially in the Qur'anic verse Surat An-Nisa' (4): 34, regarding the settlement of nusyuz by beating the wife, which is often regarded as legitimacy for domestic violence behavior. This study aims to explore the understanding of nusyuz in families of Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu City and its impact on domestic violence behavior in the household. This study tries to answer 2 questions, namely: 1. How is the understanding of nusyuz in the family of Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu City? 2. What is the impact of nusyuz understanding in families of Gading Cempaka District, Bengkulu City on domestic violence behavior? This research is a field research, which in its analysis uses a sociological approach, which in its analysis uses sociological theories of behavior, social stratification and mubādalah. The information in this study was obtained through interviews with 10 families and literature studies related to nusyuz and domestic violence. The results of this study revealed 2 main conclusions. First, this study shows that the understanding of nusyuz in families in Gading Cempaka sub-district has significant variations. The compiler grouped the understanding of nusyuz in this family into 3 groups. Namely families with the same understanding of nusyuz between husband and wife (equality in understanding), then different understanding of nusyuz between couples (difference in understanding) and the last group is families that have limitations in understanding nusyuz (lack of understanding). Families in category 1 are families that have applied the concept of interconnection (mubādalah) in it, so they are wiser in completing nusyuz. Conversely, families with differences and limited understanding of nusyuz, tend to be unwise in resolving nusyuz and have the potential to commit violence. Second, the results of subsequent studies show that a deep understanding of nusyuz and Islamic religious teachings tends to encourage individuals to avoid domestic violence behavior. When viewed from social class, there is no significant difference in the understanding of nusyuz and domestic violence. However, when viewed in terms of social status or education, there is a gap that is quite visible. Where families who have low education have an understanding that tends to indicate vulnerability to domestic violence.
