"HERMENEUTIKA ANTROPOSENTRIS HASSAN HANAFI (1935‒2021) DAN NASR HAMID ABU ZAID (1943‒2010): TINJAUAN HERMENEUTIKA FILOSOFIS"^^ . "Contemporary discourse on the interpretation of the Qur’an has\r\nso far been dominated by works that are methodical in nature and\r\ninterpretation practice (exegesis). As for interpretations with\r\nphilosophical nuances, there is relatively little discussion. This\r\nresearch aims to carry out a connected comparison of the interpretive\r\ntheories of Ḥassan Ḥanafi and Naṣr Ḥāmid Abū Zaid, especially\r\nfrom the aspect of philosophical hermeneutics. The analysis was\r\ncarried out using ideal text theory, Gracia’s special meaning theory,\r\neffective history theory and Gadamer’s horizon fusion theory. The\r\nuse of the Gracia-Gadamerian theory is intended to identify the style,\r\ndialectics and epistemology of the hermeneutic theory of the two\r\nfigures.\r\nFrom data research and analysis, it can be seen that Ḥassan\r\nḤanafi and Naṣr Ḥāmid Abū Zaid both put forward an\r\nanthropocentric interpretation, namely referring to human interests\r\nrather than a theocentric interpretation. The two figures also\r\nadvocated the importance of modernity for the Islamic world by not\r\nabandoning tradition but reconstructing it.\r\nḤassan Ḥanafi’s axiomatic hermeneutics has a subjectivistcum-\r\nobjectivist style, namely giving a large role to the interpreter in\r\ninterpreting the text and placing awareness and reality (aside from\r\nthe text) as important factors in interpretation. Ḥassan Ḥanafi’s\r\naxiomatic hermeneutics starts from the socio-political reform agenda\r\nand then develops a methodology by linking relevant verses. In this\r\ncase, searching for the basic meaning of the text is not a priority.\r\nThis is different from Abū Zaid’s humanistic hermeneutics, which\r\nprioritizes the search for the historical meaning (basic meaning) of\r\nthe text and then uses a certain methodology to obtain its\r\nsignificance. Abū Zaid’s humanistic hermeneutics has an objectivistcum-\r\nsubjectivist pattern; that is, it tends towards (highly) objective\r\naspects. In this context, searching for the basic meaning of the text is\r\nnecessary to avoid tendentious-ideological readings (qira’āh mughridhah, talwīn) as Abū Zaid accused of Ḥassan Ḥanafi’s\r\naxiomatic hermeneutics. As for the flow of the hermeneutical\r\ncorrelation between Ḥassan Ḥanafi and Abū Zaid, apart from its\r\nanthropocentric nature through the accommodation of human history\r\nand culture, it also has similarities in prioritizing awareness and\r\nreality in interpretation.\r\nEpistemologically, both hermeneutics utilize rational-scientific\r\nanalysis by involving philosophy and modern empirical sciences.\r\nHowever, there is a difference in that Ḥassan Ḥanafi’s axiomatic\r\nhermeneutics uses a phenomenological approach and existentialist\r\nphilosophy, while Abū Zaid’s humanistic hermeneutics uses a\r\nlinguistic approach and literary criticism. The character of reasoning\r\nbetween Ḥassan Ḥanafi and Abū Zaid can be said to be relatively the\r\nsame, namely rational-reformative with a slight difference in that\r\nḤassan Ḥanafi tends to be more revolutionary than Abū Zaid, who\r\nseems softer. The problems surrounding the two figures include the\r\nemergence of accusations of desacralizing the Qur’an, imposing\r\nextra-Qur’anic ideas and the influence of Marxism and secularism on\r\nthe hermeneutical theories of the two figures.\r\nThe significance of this study is the need to dynamize\r\nphilosophical aspects in interpretation (philosophical hermeneutics)\r\nso as to trigger the development of interpretive methodology. All of\r\nthis is necessary in order to encourage the emergence of fresh,\r\ncontextual and humanist interpretations to replace interpretations that\r\nare repetitive, rigid and harsh.\r\nIt is hoped that this comparative study of the anthropocentric\r\nhermeneutics of Ḥassan Ḥanafi and Naṣr Ḥāmid Abū Zaid can enrich\r\nthe treasures of ‘ulumul Qur’an, especially contemporary theories of\r\nQur’anic interpretation."^^ .
