Education also plays a crucial role in developing and shaping individuals' characters to build a high-quality society. However, economic disparities strongly influence individuals not to prioritize education as their primary goal and instead focus more on supporting their families' economic needs. This phenomenon occurs among marginalized children in the scavenger village environment in Yogyakarta. For school-aged children, they greatly need education to aid in their developmental progress and to cultivate lofty aspirations for their lives. Under such circumstances, marginalized children often lack confidence and sometimes lack the resilience needed to face life's challenges. This was noticed by volunteers in Yogyakarta who formed a community named the Marginal School Community (MSC), with the aim of bringing children from marginalized families closer to the world of education. This way, they can live decent lives, experience education, and no longer have to live in the shackles of minority life. This research aims to understand the formation of self-esteem and resilience in marginalized children who receive education through the Marginal School Community (MSC) in Yogyakarta. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection for this research uses interview, observation, and documentation methods involving a number of children and volunteers participating in the alternative education program. The research analysis employs triangulation method from the obtained research data sources. The results of the research indicate that the Marginal School Community (MSC) in Yogyakarta has directly fostered the formation of self-esteem and resilience in marginalized children in Yogyakarta. The process of forming self-esteem carried out by the Marginal School Community (MSC) in Yogyakarta involves strategies such as understanding students' culture, connecting with students' reality, empowering students, emphasizing the importance of language, and acknowledging and forming identity. Meanwhile, the strategies in the resilience formation process undertaken by the Marginal School Community (MSC) in Yogyakarta include incorporating values such as: education responsive to individual needs, empowering families, social support networks, developing social and emotional skills, teaching problem-solving abilities, encouraging positive identity, and teaching adaptation skills.
