Culture, Thesis, Yogyakarta: Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. uang panai,' as a highly revered cultural practice in the city of Makassar, presents challenges for its community, particularly among students, due to the increasingly apparent disparities in education levels, social status, and economic conditions within the community. This becomes a dilemma for families planning to marry off their sons and daughters, prompting them to seek solutions to this cultural practice. Some even violate religious and social norms to facilitate marriage. Therefore, this research focuses on how Muslim students in Makassar socially construct their perspectives regarding the implementation of the uang panai,' culture. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with Miles and Huberman's data analysis as the research method. The Social Construction Theory by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann serves as a reference for the study. The research results show that the social construction of Makassar City Muslim students occurs through three dialectical moments, namely first, externalization as a stage of cultural introduction by students. Second, objectivation in the form of assessing students with the uang panai? culture. Third, internalization shapes how students implement this culture. As a result of social construction, there were groups of students who consistently rejected and did not carry out the uang panai? culture, as well as groups of students who accepted and carried out the uang panai? culture. Apart from that, there were also inconsistent student groups, namely students who refused but carried out the uang panai? culture.} }
