"Synthesis of p-menthen-9-ol has been carried out using the basic\r\ningredient citronellal which is distilled from citronella oil. Citronellal can be\r\nconverted to p-menten-9-ol through cyclization and isomerization processes. In\r\nthis research, the p-menten-9-ol synthesis process was carried out using a one pot\r\nsystem method using a ZnO/acid activated palm shell charcoal catalyst and formic\r\nacid oxidizer in one container (one pot).The aim of this research is to characterize\r\nZnO/acid-activated palm shell charcoal based on FTIR and XRD and analysis of\r\nthe products produced in the one pot system synthesis of citronellal using a\r\nZnO/acid activated palm shell charcoal catalyst and N2 oxidizer.\r\nThe preparation process for the ZnO/acid-activated palm shell charcoal\r\ncatalyst was carried out using wet impregnation and calcination methods. The\r\nimpregnation process is the process of saturating the pores of palm shell charcoal\r\nwith a solution of zinc chloride metal through adsorption at a temperature of 110o\r\nC. while the calcination process is the process of providing heat by flowing N2 gas\r\nat a temperature of 400o C. The acid-activated ZnO/palm shell charcoal catalyst\r\nwas successfully identified based on the FTIR spectrum by the presence of an\r\nabsorption wavelength of 561.55 cm-1 indicating ZnO stretching bonds which are\r\ncharacteristic of carbon in palm kernel shell charcoal and the XRD diffractogram\r\nindicated the presence of ZnO at the peak of 2θ= 30.1o , 33.91o and 36.60o . The\r\ncatalyst can convert via GC-MS chromatogram. Based on the data obtained, it was\r\nconcluded that the ZnO/acid activated palm shell charcoal catalyst could be used\r\nin the one pot system synthesis reaction of citronellal to p-menthen-9-ol\r\nproducing a yield of 4.86%."^^ .
