Lanthanum chloride is beneficial in the field of health for its application as an anti-tumor drug, anti-cancer drug, for synergistic photothermal antibacterial and wound dressing, and for radioprotection. This research aims to determine the optimal conditions in the synthesis of lanthanum chloride through the stages of La2O3 feed preparation and LaOCl preparation based on the influence of variations in mole ratio, temperature, and reaction time. The synthesis of lanthanum chloride was carried out through a series of steps, starting with the heating of lanthanum oxalate at a reaction temperature of 900°C for 3 hours to form lanthanum oxide (La2O3). Subsequently, the La2O3 was melted with ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) to form lanthanum oxychloride (LaOCl), followed by leaching with hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution with stirring at 300 rpm and a temperature of 110°C. The best lanthanum oxychloride result was obtained with a ratio of 1:60 at a reaction temperature of 900°C for 4 hours, yielding a LaOCl crystal percentage of 94.7% in experiment I, and 100% crystal percentage in experiment II. This result was followed by leaching with hydrochloric acid, resulting in the highest lanthanum chloride (LaCl3) concentration with 3M HCl and a reaction time of 2 hours. The synthesized product was characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), compared to Merck lanthanum chloride. The percentage of lanthanum chloride crystals formed was 94.7%. %K La2O3, LaOCl, LaCl3, Logam Tanah Jarang, Lantanum %D 2024 %I UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib64978
