abstract: Youth have an important role in national development, although the unemployment rate among them reaches 24% in Indonesia. However, the young generation is not just a problem for the country; many young people significantly contribute to enhancing sustainable development. In Yogyakarta, there is the Mrican Youth group, which manages the Bendhung Lepen Water Tourism with the aim of benefiting the local community. This study aims to understand the role of Mrican Youth in community empowerment through the development of Bendhung Lepen Water Tourism and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors.
This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Informant selection utilizes purposive sampling based on specific characteristics deemed relevant, while data validity employs source triangulation and methods triangulation. The analysis process begins with data collection, followed by data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The research findings indicate that there are three roles of Mrican Youth in empowering the community in Mrican Village, namely the roles of awareness, facilitation, and resource acquisition. The awareness role is carried out by organizing regular gatherings to educate young people. The facilitation role involves creating programs or events provided by Mrican Youth as a platform for young people to contribute and providing commercial spaces for the community to engage in entrepreneurship. The resource acquisition role is achieved through collaborations, one of which is with BRI Peduli CSR through a community empowerment program. The supporting factors for Mrican Youth include internal support in the form of active members' energy, thoughts, time, and solidarity, as well as external support such as assistance from neighboring communities, the government, and companies. The internal obstacles stem from psychological factors, such as laziness and a lack of awareness. The external obstacles are related to changing weather conditions and jealousy from the community towards Mrican Youth.
