N2  - One form of  communication  that  humans  often  use  in  interacting  is  interpersonal 
communication. Interpersonal communication is very important to shape a person's character,  
including  the  character  of  students  in  Islamic  boarding  schools.  This research  aims  to  
find  out  in  depth  and  complexity  related  to  environmental influences,   constructive   
delivery,   understanding   individual   needs   through   an interpersonal approach carried out by 
Musyrif in order to produce strengthening of the character of students from the interpersonal 
relationships that exist. The object of this writing is interpersonal communication that occurs in 
the MTs dormitory at the Ali Maksum Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta. The subjects in this 
research were  students  and  Musyrif  from  the  Ali  Maksum  Islamic  Boarding  School  MTs 
dormitory.  Based  on  research  data,  researchers  found  that  the  interpersonal communication 
of MTs Ali Maksum Krapyak Yogyakarta dormitory caregivers was quite good. The interaction process 
that develops between caregivers and students is   open   and   two-way.   Santri   are   given   
the   opportunity   to   convey   opinions, suggestions  and  complaints  to  their  Musyrif.  The  
character  formation  of  students includes    religious,    tolerant,    disciplined    and    
independent.    Meanwhile,    the interpersonal  communication  used  includes  an  attitude  of  
openness,  empathy, supportive attitude, positive attitude and equality.
