The sensational news of the discovery of body parts scattered across various areas in Sleman briefly shocked the public. Scientific crime investigation played a pivotal role in legal enforcement against the two suspects involved. Based on these circumstances, the following questions arise: First, how is the application of scientific crime investigation in a murder case involving mutilation of a private university student in Yogyakarta at the DIY Regional Police and Bhayangkara Hospital? Second, what are the strengths and weaknesses of the application of scientific crime investigation in that case? To address these questions, the researcher employed an empirical research approach, examining the theories of proof and the triangle of evidence. Interviews served as primary legal material, while legal documents acted as secondary material. Encyclopedias or other sources relevant to the research topic were used as tertiary legal material. The juridical-empirical research approach categorizes this study as field research. The findings of the study reveal that in the case of murder accompanied by mutilation of a private university student in Yogyakarta, all technical assistance from scientific crime investigation was employed, including Identification, Forensic Medicine, Forensic Laboratory, Forensic Psychology, and Digital Forensics. The application of scientific crime investigation in this murder case with mutilation of a student from a private university in Yogyakarta has the advantage of facilitating investigators in case resolution. Despite the advantages gained from technical assistance in scientific crime investigation, there is a drawback in terms of requiring a considerable amount of time for the examination process in each technical assistance field.} }
