Religious figures are present as providers of solutions to problems that occur in a society. Often they become role models as well as role models. In this case the author is interested in discussing one of the influential religious figures in the Purwantoro area. Pono is a religious figure in the community of Kepyar Village, Purwantoro District, Wonogiri, Central Java. He often carried out religious activities by holding, attending, leading various religious assemblies in order to preach, he even founded the Al-Qur'an Educational Institute. This study aims to determine the role and contribution of religious leaders to religion and education in Kepyar Village. This research is historical research. Methodologically, this study includes four stages, namely heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. As an analytical lens, this research uses an interpretive approach and social action theory from Max Weber. This interpretive approach is used to explore the roles and efforts of figures in matters of religion and education in society. The results of this study are that Pono's role in religion is very important where he plays an active role in various activities with the community. This is evidenced by attending and leading religious ceremonies in Kepyar Village, Purwantoro District, Wonogiri. Pono also founded TPQ to teach Al-Quran knowledge to children.
