The importance of translation, especially from English, encourage people to study English from early childhood. One of the language learning media for child is a bilingual book because it provides two different language in the same page so that children can compare the differences. However, translating one language to another language is not easy because every language has its own characteristic and rules. In this case, the shift of the translation most likely happen. Therefore, in this study the research analyzes category shift from Indonesian-English translation that occurs in Sayang Anak Yatim or Love the Orphan bilingual book for kids written by Vani Diana and published by Mizan Publishing Indonesia. This study is aimed to find out what kinds of category shift that occurs in this bilingual book and know how the category shift occurs. To analyze that, the research uses the theory of translation shift by J.C Catford (1965). The method of the research that is used in this study is descriptive qualitative method. To collect the data, the research uses uninvolved conversation observation technique or teknik simak bebas libat cakap because the data of this research is a written language. From this study, the researcher analyse three types of category shifts. They are one structure shift, two unit shifts, and six intra-system shift. Therefore, it can be concluded that the most category shift that was found was intra-system shift.
