abstract: SAS’s speeches on IN
discourse are used to maintain and protect his members from the threat
of radical groups. It is a kind of rhetoric that functions to persuade,
inform, and influence his listeners. Islam Nusantara became the new
brand for the NU, particularly to counter radical groups. In addition,
those terms are used as reminders for his community.
The introduction of IN within the NU community is important
to restrict radical ideology and its infiltration of NU members. There
are several terms used by the SAS while delivering the speeches; they
are terms of slametan, tahlilan, and istighozah, which are practiced as
religious practices within the NU community.
