"This dissertation examines the integration of Islam and science\r\nin the curriculum of SMA Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo. The research is\r\nmotivated by the historical decline of Islamic civilization from the\r\n13th to the 18th centuries, attributed to the closure of the ijtihad gate,\r\nresulting in a decline of scientific knowledge in Islamic education. The\r\nonce integrated view of general knowledge and religious knowledge\r\nas a unified whole became dichotomized, leading to the belief that\r\nonly religious knowledge was compulsory, while general knowledge\r\nwas considered optional or even discouraged.\r\nThe five-century decline of Islamic civilization and the\r\nsubsequent backwardness of the Muslim world prompted a resurgence\r\nof reformist thought among Islamic intellectuals in the 19th century.\r\nThis led to a renewed emphasis on secular sciences and the\r\ndevelopment of the concept of 'Islamizing knowledge' in the 20th\r\ncentury, a notion that sparked considerable debate within the Muslim\r\ncommunity. This intellectual revival fueled a drive for reform,\r\nespecially in Islamic education. Against this backdrop, this\r\ndissertation investigates three research questions: (1) How is Islam and\r\nScience integrated in learning? (2) What is the nature of this\r\nintegration? (3) How is the implementation and outcome of this\r\nintegration in learning observed in this school?\r\nThis research employed a qualitative field research method.\r\nUtilizing the theoretical framework of science and Islamic teachings\r\nintegration proposed by Ziauddin Sardar, as well as the integration\r\ntheory put forth by the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta team and Lexy\r\nJ. Moleong, and drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's concept of field, this\r\nstudy reveals that: firstly, the integration of Islamic studies and science\r\nwas developed based on the construction of students' spiritualreligious\r\ndimensions, utilizing both the Ministry of Education and\r\nCulture and the Ministry of Religious Affairs curricula. Secondly, the\r\nintegration of Islam and science in teaching and learning practices at\r\nSMA Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo is well-supported and adequate in terms of both teachers and learning facilities. Thirdly, this study\r\nelucidates the implementation and outcomes of the integrated Islam\r\nand science curriculum developed at SMA Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Solo,\r\nwith the aspiration of establishing the school as an Islamic and\r\nscience-based institution in Solo."^^ .
