abstract: The phenomenon of gangsterism often occurs in various regions, one of which is in Yogyakarta. Gangsterism is also classified as one of the social deviations that occurs in the community which of course will endanger the community. Based on data from the Regional Police (Polda) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), the year-end report on the level of crime or criminality in its area throughout 2023 was released. There were 11,112 cases that occurred in Yogyakarta, although this figure has decreased compared to the previous year, but gangsterism or criminality still occurs in Yogyakarta. This is the basis for KH.R. Chaidar Muhaimin Afandi to carry out da'wah activities with a persuasive communication approach.
This study uses a qualitative research type that is descriptive analysis with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through observation, interview and documentation methods. Data processing and analysis techniques are carried out in three steps, data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions and verification. The results of this study are in the persuasive communication process carried out by KH. R. Chaidar Muhaimin Affandi by identifying the problems of the communicant such as the background and situation and conditions of ex thugs. This aims to determine the message to be conveyed by the communicator and what techniques will be used by the communicator. In its implications, KH. R. Chaidar Muhaimin Affandi conveys a multi-aspect message not only focusing on religious material but also focusing on social community material and always accompanied by jokes so that ex thugs are not too rigid in understanding the message he conveys. The techniques used are using association techniques, integration techniques, and arrangement techniques. And there are three effects experienced by ex thugs, namely cognitive, affective and behavioral.
