abstract: In the tourism sector, women's empowerment is believed to positively
reduce poverty, gender equality issues and other problems. The problems that
occur against women in the world of tourism make the formation of an
organization that wants to help and oversee the problems of women in the world
of tourism, namely “Women in Tourism Indonesia”. Women in Tourism
Indonesia is an NGO that focuses on empowering women who are active in the
tourism sector.
The object of this research is the role of the Women in Tourism Indonesia
organization in empowering women in the Indonesian tourism sector. This
research uses a case study approach, a case study is a qualitative research
approach regarding detailed information about individual groups, institutions and
so on within a certain period of time, data collection techniques in this study
include observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis and
validity techniques with data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing.
This research uses Longwe's gender analysis theory as an analysis.
Women in Tourism Indonesia has programs to empower women both
online and offline. Women in Tourism Indonesia experiences obstacles in funding
and packaging the content of its programs, but still manages to have a significant
positive impact on the women who participate in its programs. The programs
carried out by Women in Tourism Indonesia also involve collaboration with other
parties to succeed the organization's programs and reach a larger audience.
The research shows that despite improvements in welfare, access and
critical awareness, many women are still at lower levels of participation and
control. In the control dimension, not all women involved in the Women in
Tourism Indonesia empowerment program reached this stage. Many of the women
did not fully understand women's rights and still experienced limitations in active
participation and decision-making in the tourism sector.
