Suicide is multi-determined, with many possible triggers that must be examined to see how the phenomenon occurs. Based on the study of suicide theory by Thomas Joiner, this research seeks to understand how the process of someone having suicidal thoughts, and when these thoughts can become real actions. This study used descriptive qualitative method, involving students in two campuses in Yogyakarta. Data collection began with distributing measuring instruments to determine suicidal ideation in two classes on two different campuses, after obtaining the results, observations were made, and in-depth interviews were conducted. The research considered the different experiences of the four individuals studied. As a result, suicidal ideation that arises due to the burden felt, occurs due to several experiences including decreased productivity due to depression, anxiety, demands for marriage for women over 25 years old and financial immaturity. Furthermore, a sense of belonging that fails is closely related to the level of productivity of the interviewee, feeling unproductive and unworthy makes individuals place restrictions on social interactions and triggers suicidal ideation. However, there is a sense of belonging that can also prevent suicide, namely social support and religious beliefs. This was felt by informants Maya, Cika, Sandi, each of whom had at least one person who could be trusted and supported in every situation. In contrast to the other three, in the feeling of belonging Lia placed trust in the ownership of God's power, so that Lia felt not alone and had a purpose in life. To arrive at a serious risk of suicide, individuals usually have painful experiences. The painful experience makes the individual tolerate the pain, thus triggering the ability to self-harm which leads to serious suicide risk. From the four interviewees who have been researched, each individual faces different risks, including painful experiences of verbal abuse, depression, harsh parenting, loss and loneliness. %Z Pembimbing: Dr. Suhadi, S.Ag., M.A.
