N2  - Democracy requires the involvement of citizens in the important political events, such as a direct election for political leaders. In Indonesia, the first direct election for president and vice president was succesfully done in 2004. From that time, the election of local political leaders, such as governor and regent across the country has also held directly. Nevertheless, there is an interesting phenomenon in Riau regarding this direct election for the local leader, namely the low degree of involvement of people in Riau in the election. There are two variables predicted as cause factors for this phenomenon: social and economy charcteristics and psychological factor.
