N2  - This research is motivated by the lack of research that discusses the role of the Trade Union in the Wage Council. This research aims to encourage the strengthening of the Trade Union in the Wage Council as an effort to protect the right to decent wages for Workers/Laborers. In this research, there are two formulations of the problem taken, namely how is the role of the trade union and efforts to protect the rights of workers/laborers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and How is the analysis of the role of the trade union in the wage council as an effort to protect the rights of workers/laborers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The purpose of this research is to determine the role of the trade union and efforts to protect the rights of workers/laborers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and to determine the analysis of the role of the trade union in the wage council as an effort to protect the rights of workers/laborers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The type of research used is field research, the location of this study is the Office of the DPD Federation of NIBA Trade Unions of the Special Region of Yogyakarta and the Provincial Wage Council of the Special Region of Yogyakarta in this study and the sample used is total sampling and uses qualitative analysis. The data collection technique is by observation and interview. The data from this study are primary data and secondary data which are then analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the role of trade unions in protecting workers' rights in the Special Region of Yogyakarta is generally quite significant, but the role of trade unions in the wage council as an effort to protect decent wage rights for workers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta is not significant enough because in the wage determination process, trade unions as one of the elements included in the wage council only provide suggestions in the wage council plenary session. The authority to determine the nominal wage remains in the hands of the Governor, not the wage council.
