description: Traffic accidents are unexpected incidents on the road that befall road users, resulting in damage to persons and/or property. Traffic crime accidents that result in the loss of life still frequently occur in Sleman Regency. Sleman Regency ranks first among the five regencies in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in terms of traffic crime cases resulting in loss of life from 2020 to 2023. In law enforcement against perpetrators of traffic crime accidents that result in loss of life, the Sleman City Police Resort relies on Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation and its derivative regulation, namely Police Regulation Number 8 of 2021 concerning Handling of Crimes Based on Restorative Justice. In terms of law enforcement, the question arises as to how, in reality, law enforcement in cases of traffic crime accidents that result in loss of life is conducted, and how the factors that influencing the perpetrators in committing traffic crime accidents that result in loss of life.  This research is empirical and descriptive-analytic with a juridical-empirical problem approach. The data sources were obtained from interviews with the Law Enforcement staff of the Sleman City Police Traffic Unit. Secondary data sources were obtained from legislation, books, and journals. Data collection techniques were carried out using interviews and literature study methods. The theories of law enforcement, restorative justice, and criminology were used as analytical tools by the author.  The results showed that law enforcement against perpetrators of traffic accidents by the Sleman City Resort Police could not be implemented optimally. In fact, in Police Regulation Number 8 of 2021 concerning Handling Criminal Offences Based on Restorative Justice there are conflicting articles. Even the Sleman City Police in law enforcement against perpetrators of traffic accidents that result in victims losing their lives in average apply penal mediation with restorative justice methods both in cases of traffic accidents that result in victims losing their lives committed negligently or intentionally. On the factors that cause the perpetrators to commit criminal acts of traffic accidents resulting in the loss of life in fact due to the human factor itself and the road. In the field data, human factors are caused by human error and road factors are caused by roads that are not in good condition, winding, or downhill or uphill. In addition, vehicle factors also have an influence on the occurrence of criminal traffic accidents.
