Ermi Suhasti Syafei, M.SI. abstract: The husband's role should be as the head of the family and the main breadwinner in the family. However, this is different from the incident in the Ratu Timur Block, Panembahan Village, Plered, Cirebon, where the majority of women or wives are the main breadwinners of the family to take part in fulfilling the family's economy because their husbands in that area are reluctant to work. This causes the economic burden to shift to the wife. This continues to occur in a family which can result in conflict within the household and is not in line with Islamic law or applicable legal regulations. This research uses Maqāṣid asy-Syarīʿah theory and social anthropology. The method used in this research is descriptive analytical. Namely, research data was taken using interview and observation techniques. The approach used is normative anthropology, qualitative data analysis using inductive methods. The results of this research show that the role of wives as the main breadwinner of the family is laborers (housemaids) and traders in the market, these wives are also able to divide their time to fulfill their rights and obligations as housewives even though they are someone who fulfills their needs both materially and non-materially. material to her family because her husband does not work. Referring to the Maqāṣid asy-Syarīʿah theory, it also includes the principles of ad-Ḍaruriyyah (basic needs) which are classified as ḥifẓ al-Nafs (protecting the soul), and ḥifẓ al-Nasab (protecting offspring). Then, if seen from social anthropological theory, it should be the husband who still has the basic obligation to earn a living. However, the wife actually acts as the main breadwinner for the family because the husband is not willing to earn a living on the grounds that it is difficult for the husband to find work and only delegates his obligations to the wife. date: 2024-07-12 date_type: published pages: 114 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS SYARI'AH DAN HUKUM thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Yasir Mubarok, NIM.: 20103050038 (2024) TINJAUAN HUKUM ISLAM TERHADAP PERAN ISTRI SEBAGAI PENCARI NAFKAH UTAMA KELUARGA (STUDI DI BLOK TIMUR, PANEMBAHAN, PLERED, CIREBON).
