N2  - This research is based on the stipulation of the rights and obligations of
husband and wife in marriage, which states that husband and wife have the
obligation to foster a household that is sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah. This
imbalance in the fulfillment of rights and obligations can cause disharmony in the
household, which often ends in conflict and divorce. However, the case of the wife
of a terrorist inmate shows a different phenomenon. Although some of their rights
as wives are often neglected due to their husbands being imprisoned, many of them
still choose to maintain the integrity of their households. On that basis, the author
is interested in examining how they understand the concept or provision of rights
and obligations in the family and why they maintain the integrity of their household,
to see the relationship between their understanding of rights and obligations and
their attitude of maintaining their marriage.
This research is a field research with a qualitative method. Data collection
was carried out through interviews with the wives of three terrorist inmates in
Lamongan, to explore the reasons for them to maintain the integrity of their
households. The nature of this research is descriptive analytical, namely describing
the data that has been obtained through interviews. The data were studied using
functional structural theory initiated by Talcott Parsons.
The study reveals that first, the wives of terrorist inmates have a good
understanding of their rights and obligations in the family, including understanding
that the imprisonment of a spouse can be a reason for divorce, but they do not take
a stance to decide on marriage even though their husbands are serving prison
sentences. Second, that the reason why the wife of a terrorist inmate continues to
maintain the integrity of her household is influenced by two factors, namely internal
and external factors. Internal factors include, religiosity, support from close family,
and maintained communication. The external factors include financial support from
a certain institution. These wives also show the ability to adapt to the circumstances
they face, to achieve their goals (goal attainment), maintain integration in family
relationships, and maintain values and norms (latency).
