This study employs Farid Esack's theory of Islamic typology, utilizing qualitative research methodologies which are interviews and observations. This study's findings indicate that most HMI UIN Sunan Kalijaga activists have an uncritical lover indicator inclination towards Islamic typology. As a result of the advances in the organizational environment and lectures, these activists underwent a shift in typology and became a scholarly lover indicator. There have also been changes to the critical lover typology, which was initially absent among new activists but gradually became present. Formal organizational training and activities make it easier for activists to interact with the Islamic-Indonesian discourse of HMI. This changes the Islamic typology of HMI activists at UIN Sunan Kalijaga.
