This tradition is rich in its form of appreciation for a person's religiosity. It can be examined more deeply in terms of the values contained within the philosophy of culture. One of the figures who discusses cultural philosophy is J.W.M. Bakker. Therefore, the research problem formulated in this study is how the Sayyang Pattu'du tradition is viewed from J.W.M. Bakker’s perspective and what is the meaning of the tradition. The research aims to understand the Sayyang Pattu'du tradition from J.W.M. Bakker's perspective and its meaning. The method used is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach, which involves describing the object of study and then analyzing it. The data sources consist of both primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques include interviews with several cultural figures and community leaders in Polewali Mandar. The chosen approach is a philosophical one, relevant to the research theme. The results show that, as explained in J.W.M. Bakker's philosophy of culture, this tradition has three main dimensions: an ideal dimension reflecting religious and spiritual values, a social dimension that strengthens community bonds, and a physical dimension seen in the form of ceremonies and symbols used. The Sayyang Pattu'du tradition has strong historical roots, inspired by the procession tradition for children who have completed the Hajj pilgrimage in Medina. However, the Mandar community has successfully adapted the tradition to have a more local meaning. Sayyang Pattu'du is rich in profound symbolism. The central figure, to messawe, who rides the horse, symbolizes the highest spiritual achievement, which is the successful completion of reciting the Qur'an. The presence of pesayyang and pesarung further reinforces this symbolic meaning, depicting a spiritual journey full of support. The accompaniment of tambourines and Islamic hymns creates a solemn atmosphere that resonates with the spiritual meaning embedded in this tradition. %K Sayyang Pattu’du, Filsafat Budaya, JWM Bakker %D 2024 %I UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA %L digilib67690
