Zuhri, S.Ag., M.Ag. abstract: This research is based on the fact that the reading results show that Muhammad Abduh's kalam discourse still leaves a problem bias between the ideas of the kalam written and the conclusions put forward by the readers. In his kalam reasoning, Muhammad Abduh wants an open kalam model and avoids one-sided truth claims as is still the case. Abduh also tries to open critical spaces, so that the idea does not arise to sanctify certain views and dichotomy other views. According to him, this step is necessary to take considering that the science of kalam, which should be a science to unite people, has turned into the culprit of their division. To realize this noble desire, he invites Muslims to utilize their intellectual potential. However, it was concluded by his readers that Muhammad Abduh meant that he wanted to revive the rational Mu'tazilah version of the kalam. On the other hand, the idea of kalam is used as a tool to dichotomy and judge views that are external to its readers. This research is included in the character research model whose basis for obtaining data is through literature study, namely by utilizing written sources as the main reference. Written sources are divided into two important parts, primary sources and secondary sources. Primary sources were obtained from Muhammad Abduh's books which include the risa>lah al-tauhi>d, tafsi>r al-mana>r, isla>m wa al-madaniyah, and Islam wa al-nas{ra>niyah. Secondary sources were obtained through the results of previous research which included books, theses and dissertations which were related to the study topic with this research. The data was then analyzed using a postcolonial analysis knife and using an objective hermeneutic approach. Postcolonialism and objective hermeneutics are used to read and interpret the three main formulations in this research: what are the main ideas and reasoning of Muhammad Abduh's words? How are Muhammad Abduh's kalam ideas discussed by his readers? And how is Muhammad Abduh's kalam reasoning understood from a postcolonial perspective? From a postcolonial perspective, this research produces three final conclusions: first, the four main ideas of Muhammad Abduh's thought which include: kalam, tafsir, renewal and Sufism using the base paradigm of Sufism as its basis. Second, the results of the reading carried out by Harun Nasution, Muhammad Imarah and Malcolm H. Kerr are a dichotomous and biased reading model with a colonialistic perspective. Third, Muhammad Abduh's kalam reasoning position is not in a position to institutionalize the views of a particular kalam school as assumed by his readers and nor is he in a position of dichotomy between rational views and traditional views, but is non-dichotomous and inclusive. date: 2024-08-20 date_type: published pages: 143 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM thesis_type: masters thesis_name: other citation: Moh.
