As the demand for efficient storage solutions grows, understanding the performance differences between these systems is crucial. Ceph, based on Software Defined Networking (SDN), and Quobyte, using Network-Attached Storage (NAS), offer distinct characteristics that impact performance depending on I/O patterns, block sizes, and thread counts.= To achieve this, the study utilizes fio as a benchmarking tool to measure throughput across various workload scenarios. Experiments are conducted in a virtual environment on bare metal servers, focusing on performance analysis with different block sizes and thread counts. The results indicate that Quobyte excels in write operations across small to large block sizes, while Ceph performs better in read operations with large block sizes and higher thread counts.
