"Plastic waste particularly Styrofoam, has continuously increased over the past 10-15 years, necessitating efficient processing solutions. Pyrolysis of styrofoam waste using magnetite catalyst modified with dragon fruit peel extract (Hylocereus polyrhizus) has been conducted. This study aims to determine the characteristics of functional groups and crystallinity of the magnetite catalyst modified with dragon fruit peel extract (Fe3O4-HP) and the effect of using this catalyst on the quality of pyrolysis oil based on parameters such as density, viscosity, flash point, calorific value, and chemical composition of the pyrolysis oil based on GC-MS analysis. The synthesis of Fe3O4-HP was carried out using the reverse coprecipitation method. The synthesized product was characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). FTIR results showed the characteristic absorption of Fe-O at wavenumbers 587,64 cm-1 and 447,49 cm-1, while XRD analysis results showed five prominent diffraction peaks at 30,24˚; 35,60˚; 43,15˚; 57,30˚; and 62,83˚ with an average crystal size of 5,08 nm. The application of the magnetite catalyst in the pyrolysis process was carried out in five variations: 0,25; 0,50; 0,75; 1,00; and 1,25 g. Pyrolysis with 0,75 g catalyst mass showed the most optimal oil yield with a yield of 60,95%. Characterization of the pyrolysis oil based on density, viscosity, flash point, and calorific value parameters yielded values of 19 cP (2,19 mm2/s), 867,7 kg/m3, 39 ˚C, and 10.077,7718 calories/gram (42,19 MJ/kg), respectively. GC-MS analysis of the pyrolysis oil from styrofoam waste showed three major components styrene, 2-butenyl-benzene, and 2-pentenal. Based on these results, the magnetite catalyst was successfully synthesized with an average crystal size of 5,08 nm and characteristic Fe-O functional groups. The use of 0,75 g of Fe₃O₄-HP catalyst in the pyrolysis of styrofoam waste produced oil with optimal quality, indicated by a yield of 60,95%, as well as GC-MS analysis and physicochemical properties that closely align with standard diesel fuel."^^ .
