Indonesian people, the majority of whom are Muslims, are very important to pay attention to the halal aspect of the product which is realized in the form of a halal certificate. The Qur'an sets standards for halal food and beverages, including ingredients, presentation, and the preparation process must be in accordance with religious teachings. The Indonesian government has established regulations regarding halal certification in Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee. Halal certification is a process of clarifying or giving assertiveness to products that have uncertainty regarding their halalness. Registration of this certificate is important to provide certainty to consumers and has economic benefits for producers, because it increases consumer confidence. This study aims to examine and analyze the legal rules regarding halal certification in the culinary business and how the legal awareness of culinary business actors in Sleman Regency towards the legal rules of halal certification. The type of research in this thesis is field research with an empirical juridical research approach to understand the implementation of law in practice and the nature of this thesis research using qualitative research with descriptive methods. The empirical juridical approach is the use of primary data obtained directly from the community through field research. Retrieval of legal materials used for this research is to conduct interviews with business actors in the culinary business in Sleman Regency. The results of this study are as follows that, the legal rules regarding halal certification have been regulated in Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee as amended by Law Number 6 of 2023 which stipulates Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation into Law Article 48. In Sleman Regency, there are still many micro culinary business actors who have not fully implemented halal certification rules, while medium-sized businesses show better compliance with halal certification. Many of the culinary business actors show a fairly good level of legal awareness and consider halal certification to be important for their business. However, some micro category business actors are reluctant to make halal certification because they do not know the procedures that must be followed and feel they do not have time to make halal certification.
