Some couples struggle for a recognition before the law without religion conversion. Indonesian Conference on Religion and Peace (ICRP) of Jakarta and Persik of Salatiga are two NGOs to promote a dialogue on religious and interfaith marriage issues consistantly. For such marriage advocacy seekers the organizations give them hope. Three research questions to answer in this study are as follow. 1) Why do ICRP Jakarta and Persik Salatiga carry out interfaith marriage advocacy?; 2) To what extent does the advocacy go against the hegemony of interfaith marriage prohibition?; 3) What consensus is there in the advocacy? ICRP Jakarta and Persik Salatiga figures, interfaith couples, religion figures, Religion Affairs and Demographic Affairs Office staffs, textbooks, journals and previous research of related topic are the sources of data. The three theories applied in this study are theory of legal pluralism, theory of resistence, and theory of functional structural. The study concluds the fllowings. First, the arguments the two NGOs use in the advocacy are juridical, phylosophical, and sociological reasons. They argue that there was no express interfaithmarriage prohibtion in the Indonesian law. They also said that love was a gift from God, and religious differences should not hinder their marriage as each of them take it for granted. Interfaith couples sociologically undergoe a discrimination despite religious leader’s approval upon their marriage. Second, advocacy is carried out through consulting, educating, informing, marriage processing and religious leaders’ faciliting. Experience, human resource, and strong relation are the firewood of advocacy and resistance against interfaith marriage prohibition. Advocacy is carried out in two ways: open (legal and marriage administration path) and close (consultation, education, and information). Third, interfaith-couple advocacy brings in consensus on interfaith marriage record. Eminent interfaith-case-concern figures – ICRP and Persik representatives, religious figures, interfaith couples, and Demographic Office staffs – involve in the discussion to reach the consensus. %Z Promotor: Prof. Dr. Sekar Ayu Aryani, M.
