"The term usury and anti-usury emergence is polemical in the\r\nhistory. The discourse becomes more intense as it deals with bank\r\ninterests. The anti-usury discourteous tradition is closely related to the\r\ntriggering past time, such as the refusal of injustice and the hope of\r\nIslam superiority to return. The pressure of not-ideal sytem the Muslim\r\nsociety has experienced promotes authority-linking agents to develop\r\nvarious anti-usury movements which appear throughout the nation,\r\nincluding Bajarnegara. No-Usury Community (Masyarakat Tanpa\r\nRiba (MTR) is one of these existing movements.\r\nThe study of No-Usury Community (NUC) of Banjarnegara is\r\naimed to explore two fundamental questions: 1] What does the NUC\r\nof Banjarnegara know about usury texts in the Koran and hadits? 2]\r\nWhy does the Community think that way then put it into practice? To\r\nanswer these questions, a qualitative reseach with a phenomenological\r\napproach was carried out. The data obtained though 1] participatory\r\nobservation, 2] interviewa, and 3] documentation were analyzed and\r\ninterpreted under the theory of reception and the discourteous tradition\r\nof Talal Asad.\r\nHermeneutically, NUC interprets anti-usury texts eclectically\r\nand atomically for the text-to-practice transformation is driven by their\r\nideology instead of the texts. Anti-usury texts are interpreted as they\r\nare to confirm the urgency of revivalism. Thus, NUC puts the contexts\r\naside, and takes the phrase ”ru’usu amwalikum” (the loan) while\r\nneglecting the following phrase ”La tazlimuna wa la tuzlamun”. The anti-usury texts NUC cited and made it a doctrine\r\nare criticism and threat which was meant to give a traumatic feeling to\r\nthe readers and the listeners. What the community’s takfir that\r\nwhoever takes usury and claim that so little sin as usuary (bank interest\r\ninteraction) equals to having adultary with one’s own mother is an\r\nexample. NUC inteledtually develops its ideas entitled anti-usury in\r\nmany variety of concepts (i.e. anti capitalism, anti bank interest, hijrah\r\nkaffah, success in business upon sharia and friendly missionary\r\nendeavor by following thetexts in the Koran and the relevant hadits.\r\nIn the transmision process, with the ideology camouflage NUC\r\nan instiled anti-usury concept in a pluralistic society, and wraped up\r\ntheir people-embracing preachings under a luring theme: a solution to\r\nloan traps and a blessed life without loan interest. Having the\r\nknowledge and frame alignment power that they are in the same boat,\r\nthe NUC elite convinced members of NUC of Banjarnegara\r\nsuccessfully to adopt th idea and leave conventional economic\r\nsystems.
