Sos., M.Si. abstract: The issue of Uang Panai continues to be a topic of discussion in various circles of the Bugis - Makassar community, not only regarding its nominal value, but Uang Panai is a determinant of whether or not a wedding plan will take place. From a cultural point of view, Uang Panai has a very important position in the implementation of a marriage plan because it has been a tradition passed down from generation to generation from the ancestors of the Bugis-Makassar people, however, from a religious point of view, Uang Panai is not a pillar or condition for the validity of a marriage. In mappettuada' events, there are often very sharp differences in determining the nominal amount of Uang Panai, so this research aims to find out how the giving of Uang Panai at weddings in the Sinjai community is viewed by local figures and perpetrators. This research attempts to answer the main questions: Why does the tradition of giving Uang Panai still continue in the Sinjai community?, what are the views of local actors and figures regarding the tradition of giving Uang Panai in the Sinjai community?, and how is the tradition of giving Uang Panai seen from a maslahah perspective regarding the tradition of giving Uang Panai on marriages in the Sinjai community? This type of research is qualitative field research by describing research variables found in the field. Data was obtained using observation methods and in-depth interviews with informants who know and understand the ins and outs of Uang Panai in marriages in the people of East Sinjai District, Sinjai Regency. The results of this research show that the Uang Panai Tradition is a tradition of the Bugis-Makassar tribe which is still valid today. Giving Uang Panai is essentially assistance with money for wedding party spending from the prospective groom to the prospective bride's family. However, according to traditional leaders and religious leaders of the Sinjai community, Uang Panai has both positive and negative impacts. Likewise, according to the perpetrators, marriage depends on family agreement, even though traditionally they agree on the existence of Uang Panai, Uang Panai should not be an obstacle to marriage taking place. Uang Panai contains beneficial values such as social values, life values, as well as spiritual and spiritual values, because apart from perpetuating the marriage, it is also a form of respect or appreciation for the woman, and Uang Panai is an excuse for men not to destroy their marriage ties because it has cost them money. This is not small. The implication of this research is that it is hoped that stakeholders will always provide enlightenment to the public so that Uang Panai is not used as an excuse to make marriage difficult. date: 2024-07-22 date_type: published pages: 152 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS SYARI’AH DAN HUKUM thesis_type: masters thesis_name: other citation: Ahmad Zakiy Mubarak Hamzah, NIM.: 21203011066 (2024) TRADISI UANG PANAI DALAM PERKAWINAN MASYARAKAT SINJAI PANDANGAN PELAKU DAN TOKOH LOKAL.
