"The Ba'da Kupat tradition is a tradition that exists in Javanese Islamic society,\r\nespecially in Sindangheula village, Cilacap district. The Ba'da Kupat tradition is an\r\nannual tradition that is routinely carried out by the community in Sindangheula village,\r\nthis tradition has been passed down from the ancestors of Sindangheula village, and has\r\nbeen integrated into the lives of the people of Sindangheula village. In the discipline of\r\nanthropology, tradition is a research object that will never run out to be studied, especially\r\nthe view that tradition is a text or symbol or sign that has a reference to a particular\r\npurpose. Ba'da Kupat tradition as a sign raises a question about the symbolization of\r\nJavanese culture through a sign. Thus, Ba'da Kupat tradition as a sign or cultural symbol\r\nis a medium for certain views in Javanese culture.\r\nBased on this background, the problem formulation of this research is how Ferdinan\r\nde Saussure's semiotic analysis of the symbols of Ba'da Kupat Tradition in Malabar\r\nVillage Wanareja Cilacap Regency. The purpose of this research is to analyze Ferdinan de\r\nSaussure's semiotic theory of the symbols of the Ba'da Kupat Tradition in Malabar\r\nWanareja Village, Cilacap Regency.\r\nThe method the author uses is field research with data collection through observation\r\nand interviews. The data sources used are informants both those involved and those\r\nconsidered to understand the tradition, namely community leaders and books that support\r\nthe research. While the data analysis method uses qualitative methods and\r\nphenomenology.\r\nThe results of the study found that the Ba'da Kupat Tradition in Malabar Village\r\nWanareja Cilacap Regency is one of the processes of the community in believing and\r\ncarrying out a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. the\r\nmeanings that have been forgotten in this tradition are trying to be raised so that people\r\ncan better understand the meaning of the Ba'da Kupat Tradition which actually has a lot\r\nof deep meanings, as if we can explore and understand these meanings then we can form a\r\nbetter personality. Signs and markers that exist in the rituals of the tradition, such as\r\nalmsgiving with the intention of rejecting bad luck which is carried out together so as to\r\nincrease friendship and cohesiveness between the people of Malabar Village Wanareja\r\nCilacap Regency. In the process, there are various materials and equipment used, namely:\r\nketupat, fragrance / kemenyan, red and white porridge, and young coconut water. Each of\r\nthese materials and equipment has its own philosophical meanings in the Ba'da Kupat\r\nTradition, as here the author focuses on bringing back these meanings by examining\r\nthrough Semiotics analysis which focuses on the science of signification, as so that people\r\ncan carry out and better understand the culture."^^ .
