These cows are selected from superior Madurese breeds, meticulously cared for to develop distinct characteristics and uniqueness, and trained to exhibit traits of docility and obedience to their owners. From these practices, perceptions of cow beauty emerge, evaluated from various aspects such as physical appearance, harmony with their pair, docility, body movements in sync with music, and the accessories worn during the contest. Beyond this, the Sapi Sonok contest also aims to preserve and improve the genetics of Madurese cows and serves as a social space for the community. This research focuses on two key questions: to what extent is the practice of the Sapi Sonok tradition in Madura carried out, and what are the aesthetic values contained within the Sapi Sonok contest? The objectives of this study are to understand the extent of the practice of the Sapi Sonok tradition and to uncover the aesthetic values embedded within it. This research employs a philosophical and anthropological approach with a qualitative methodology, drawing data from observations, interviews, document-tation, and literature review. The collected data is then described and concluded after an in-depth analysis using the presented theory. The theory applied is A. A. M. Djelantik?s aesthetic theory, focusing on three sub-discussions: the form of art/art events, which discusses physical appearance; the content of art or art events, which addresses ideas, ambiance, and messages to be conveyed; and the performance of art or art events, focusing on talent, skills, and external means, vehicles, and media. The research findings reveal several insights. First, the Sapi Sonok contest serves as a beauty competition for cows, which has evolved into a tradition with social and cultural dimensions for the Madurese community. The contest also aims to preserve and improve the genetics of Madurese cows. Second, the aesthetic or beauty value of the Sapi Sonok contest is measured by physical appearance, body movements, harmony, accessories worn, docility, and adherence to contest rules. These beauty values are closely tied to the culture of the Madurese community PB - UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA KW - Pemikiran A. A. M.
