With the challenges faced, such as rapid technological advances and changing social dynamics, education requires a more holistic and adaptive approach. Paulo Freire, with his concept of critical education, and Ki Hadjar Dewantara emphasized the importance of education rooted in local wisdom. Both can complement each other in creating an education system that not only produces individuals who are technically competent but also have social and moral awareness in Islamic religious education. The integration of these two approaches can help prepare the younger generation who are able to adapt to changing times without losing cultural identity and human values. This research uses library research methods with a historical and hermeneutical approach. A historical approach helps understand the context and development of educational ideas from Paulo Freire and Ki Hadjar Dewantara, while a hermeneutical approach interprets their works in depth. Data was collected through literature and documentary studies, then analyzed using content analysis. The research results show the views of Paulo Freire and Ki Hadjar Dewantara regarding humanistic education, as well as its application in Islamic religious education and its contribution in the era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0. Freire views education as a dialogical and participatory process that focuses on developing critical awareness and empowering students, while Dewantara emphasizes the importance of role modeling, coaching and adapting teaching methods based on local wisdom. The application of this humanistic thinking in Islamic religious education includes the use of interactive discussion methods and digital technology to increase student involvement and relate Islamic religious teachings to a modern context.
