"This study examines the political policies of Recep Tayyip\r\nErdoğan in the context of contemporary Turkish politics, specifically\r\nduring the period from 2014 to 2023. During this time, his political\r\npolicies exhibited fluctuating dynamics throughout his tenure as\r\nPresident of Turkey. Several of these policies have had a significant\r\ninfluence on the situation and conditions of contemporary Turkish\r\npolitics. The purpose of this study is to trace, explore, and analyze\r\nTurkish politics under Erdoğan's leadership from 2014 to 2023.\r\nThe research employs the theory of bureaucratic\r\nauthoritarianism to analyze how Turkey, a constitutionally secular\r\ncountry, has been governed for an extended period by the AKP party,\r\nwhich is rooted in Islamist groups. In foreign policy, although Turkey\r\nis constitutionally nationalist-centric and secular, the AKP leadership\r\nhas sought to position Turkey as a leader of the Islamic world by\r\nreviving the concept of Neo-Ottomanism. This study discusses how\r\nErdoğan's policies navigate between secularism, post-Islamism, and\r\nNeo-Ottomanism within the domestic and foreign policy context of\r\nTurkey from 2014 to 2023. This characterizes the \"New Turkey,\"\r\nhighlighting Erdoğan's efforts, strategies, and policies in offering\r\nalternative solutions to break the political deadlock between\r\nsecularism and Islamism by consolidating what is referred to as post-\r\nIslamism. By viewing post-Islamism as the outcome of negotiations\r\nbetween secularism and Islamism, this dissertation expands the\r\nconception of post-Islamism beyond merely channeling Islamic\r\naspirations outside of non-state, community-based electoral politics.\r\nThe findings of this study indicate that Erdoğan has significant\r\nambitions to expand his political influence and reach in several\r\ncountries, particularly in conflict zones such as Syria, Sudan, Libya,\r\nand other regions in the Middle East. This suggests that Erdoğan\r\nenvisions modern Turkey under his rule as a leading force in the\r\nIslamic world and on the international stage. However, according to\r\nthe secular doctrine of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkey should have focused more on its internal affairs. The regime under Erdoğan,\r\nhowever, diverged from this doctrine, leading to a revival of Neo-\r\nOttomanism.\r\nIn addressing these various issues, the new direction of Turkish\r\nforeign policy under Erdoğan's government, characterized by Neo-\r\nOttomanism, is critically analyzed. This policy has become the\r\nreference and guideline for the Turkish government in implementing\r\nits various work programs. Erdoğan has sought to negotiate and\r\ncompromise between the ideologies of secularism, post-Islamism, and\r\nNeo-Ottomanism within the context of Turkish politics. To this end,\r\nhe has employed various strategies and political plans to ensure the\r\nsuccess of targeted work programs. Additionally, Erdoğan has\r\nleveraged his political bases, such as the AKP party, the tarekat\r\nnetwork, the military, and the Diyanet, to consolidate his power in\r\ngovernment. He has aimed to perpetuate his presidency and garner\r\nsupport from the Turkish populace in presidential elections. Erdoğan's\r\npopulist policies, both domestically and internationally, indicate his\r\nefforts to implement important strategies to maintain and secure his\r\npower."^^ . "2024-09-09" . . . .
