N2 - This study aims to examine the portrayal of loneliness in early adults after a
breakup using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data collection was
conducted through semi-structured interviews and covert participant observation.
The participants selected using purposive sampling, consisted of two women and
one man within the early adulthood age range. The results revealed that all three
participants experienced loneliness characterized by negative self-perception
leading to pessimism and dissatisfaction with oneself, increased despair and loss
of hope, loss of trust in others and heightened social anxiety, and avoidance of
social interactions in favor of solitude. The conclusion of this study is that loneliness
experienced by early adults following a breakup is a complex phenomenon
involving emotional, motivational, cognitive, and behavioral aspects. The findings
indicate that while loneliness and negative emotions can have detrimental effects,
these experiences also offer opportunities for personal recovery and self-reflection.
During the recovery process, individuals can channel their energy into selfevaluation
and exploring new interests, which can ultimately accelerate recovery
and foster positive self-development.
