This research was prepared using descriptive qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques used in this research through interview techniques, observation and documentation. The data validity test uses triangulation of sources and techniques, and membercheck. The data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification. The results of this study indicate that 1) students' interest in reading at SDN 2 Cintabodas Tasikmalaya is still low, 2) the role of teachers in increasing students' interest in reading at SDN 2 Cintabodas Tasikmalaya includes being a corrector, inspirer, informator, motivator, initiator, facilitator, and guide, and 3) the obstacles of teachers in increasing students' interest in reading at SDN 2 Cintabodas, including: there are no written rules regarding the literacy movement programme, reading activities or programmes are still lacking, the library is less attractive, the books available in the library are not adequate and are old collections.
