Hum abstract: The tradition of sambatan is a manifestation of mutual cooperation that has unique characteristics that differ from other forms of mutual cooperation. Sambatan is a tradition of mutual help among Javanese people that is still preserved until now. One of the villages that still preserves this tradition is Karangrejo Hamlet, Blongkeng Village, Ngluwar, Magelang. Sambatan has important social meanings in society, in addition to completing certain tasks. This activity also serves as an opportunity to strengthen relationships between individuals. In an increasingly modern society, social interactions tend to decline, so sambatan becomes one of the traditions to maintain solidarity and togetherness among members of society. This study aims to analyze the process of identity formation and social solidarity in the tradition of sambatan. The research method used is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis uses Symbolic Interactionism theory, focusing on the concepts of "looking-glass self" and "primary group" by Charles Horton Cooley. The results of the study show that the tradition of sambatan facilitates the formation of individual identity through the concept of self that is constructed in social interaction. Through the process of the looking-glass self, individuals interpret themselves in relation to others and groups. The tradition of sambatan also creates social solidarity among the people based on the spirit of mutual cooperation, trust, and a sense of belonging. This solidarity is formed through symbolic interaction and the exchange of meaning in the practice of sambatan. The values contained in the tradition of sambatan, such as the values of mutual help, collectivism, togetherness, reciprocity, religiosity, and economics, help this tradition to remain in society, although its implementation has undergone differences along with the development of the times. Thus, sambatan becomes one of the media for constructing individual identity as well as maintaining social bonds within Javanese society. date: 2024-12-18 date_type: published pages: 144 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Ayu Dwi Marintan, NIM.: 20107020011 (2024) PEMBENTUKAN IDENTITAS DAN SOLIDARITAS SOSIAL DALAM TRADISI SAMBATAN: ANALISIS INTERAKSIONISME SIMBOLIK CHARLES HORTON COOLEY.
